Kaputaş Beach, is one of the best beaches in the Mediterranean Sea. The beach which is composed of sand and gravel, was able to become one of the world's most attractive beaches with its turquoise colored water. According to the country wide newspaper Hurriyet's article, this beach has been selected as the best beach of Turkey in 2014.
Kaputaş Beach located between Kaş and Kalkan and it is 7 kilometres away to Kalkan . It is possible to reach the beach with your own car. If you do not have a car than you may use the minibuses which are working in the Kaş- Patara bus line.
Kalkan is a small and beautiful bay that is close to Kaş - Antalya and surrounded with history, sea and nature. Saklıkent Gorge is a true miracle of Nature. It is 18 km. long and contains the spring water that comes out of the mountains. It’s current is so severe and its water is always cold due to being formed of spring waters.
The discovery of the Gorge wasn’t very far from our date. According to rumours the gorge had been discovered by a shepherd who pursued his goat after the goat got lost into the gorge.
You may move on a single row on a wooden dock that is attached to the wall of Saklikent gorge and reach the place where the spring water comes out. At this point, if you prefer you may enter to the icy water and start moving deep into the gorge. It is best to get an extra pair of shoes for walking since the surface of the bottom is formed of pebbles. You may travel to gorge with tours organised by the companies or by yourselves with the minibuses.
Patara Ancient City & Beach
Patara is an ancient place which is close to Kalkan. It is considered as a Lycian city and was also a capital in Lycia. It is also known as God of Sun’s, Apollo’s birth place in mythology. Roman triumphal arch, the Byzantine Basilica, Sanctuary and the ancient theatre are amongst some of the ruins that you might see in Patara.
The beach of Patara is the most beautiful and longest beach compared to the others which are around in the area. 12-kilometer-long beach reaches depths of 200-300 meters in some places. Its sand is fine and the water level is shallow. On top of that this beach is well suited for kite surfers. Patara beach is under protection due to being amongst the places where caretta carettas leave their eggs.
Xanthos Ancient City
Xanthos ancient city that is carrying the same with the Xanthos River was one of the biggest and oldest cities in Lycia.
It is especially believed that this city was Lycia’s religious and administrative centre and city's history withstands the 7th century BC.
Despite of witnessing a horrible past, this ancient city managed to carry its glory and beauty to the future. Being an important ancient city made this place to be added into the itinerary list of local and foreign visitors.
Kekova is described as an earthly heaven that fabricated with the integration of natural beauty and history. Simena is an ancient Lycian city that nowadays known as Kaleköy. You may reach this area only by sea transportation. You may have an amazing view from the castle that is still standing. You could also get lost in the mysterious history of this place while wandering around the ancient theatre, the tombs and the temples.
Tlos Ancient City
Tlos Ancient City is one of the oldest residential places in Lycia. It is believed that mythological and magical creature Pegasus and its champion Bellerophon were living here. The city's acropolis, which is hid by the Ottoman structured castle, is located on a steep hill. At the same time some Lycian ramparts, 6 arched doorways, the agora, the Roman-era city walls and an ancient theatre remainings are still existing in this city.
It is a walking route starting from Fethiye to Antalya, formed by marking and mapping some of the roads on Teke Peninsula that also known as Lycia in the past. It has been presented as one of the top 10 long-distance hiking trails in the world by various sources. The view of Gelidonya lighthouse that is located on the trail was chosen as the most beautiful scenery of Turkey in 2007. You may find accommodation opportunities in the settlements along the way.
